Q.
Hi John,
What would you say are some key steps to personal revival?
Philip
A.
Hello Philip,
Thanks for your question on personal revival. Several basic thoughts come to mind.
- Acknowledge your need.
When the psalmist prayed to be revived “again” he acknowledged his need. (Ps. 85:6). - Ask the Spirit to search your heart so you can address that which hinders.
The psalmist prayed, “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Ps. 139:23-24). - Walk in the light.
When the Spirit shines light on that which hinders, confess it by agreeing with God without making excuses (1 John 1:7,9a). - Take the cleansing God gives.
When you get honest, the blood of Jesus cleans you up. Take the clean heart by faith (1 John 1:9b). - Walk in the Spirit.
When you have been cleansed, you are restored to fellowship (1 John 1:7). Now walk in the provision of the Spirit’s leadership and power (Gal. 5:16). This walk is by faith (Col. 2:6). Now you experience the provision of Christ’s life in you. Christ lives in me…by faith (Gal. 2:20).
This is life again. It’s revival on the individual level.
Ultimately, this is seeking God and not following some formula. For if you seek Him, he will be found of you (2 Chron. 15:2). Draw near to God and He will draw near to you (James 4:8).
