Q.

Since Christ comes to dwell in us at salvation by his Spirit, can you please explain further the significance of the Holy
Spirit imparting to us the indwelling life of Christ?

A.

Thank you for your inquiry. The issue here would be the difference between the provision of the indwelling Christ at salvation and the access of His life so that you experience Jesus. It’s the difference between Christ in you versus Christ to you and through you.

Christ lives in every believer. This is a matter of fact for every believer regardless of their age, how long they have been saved, how long they have been walking in fellowship with God, or whether they even are right with God. But without faith the full benefit of Christ’s indwelling life is missed out on. Christ lives in every believer … by faith (Gal. 2:20). Faith turns the facts into experience.

“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him” (Col. 2:6). We received Jesus by faith. We also walk in Him by faith. Walking by faith in the Spirit of Jesus accesses the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:16,22-23). When the Spirit thus imparts the life of Christ—love in all its myriad of expressions, we experience the indwelling life of Christ. Those around us are blessed as well as we experience His joy, peace, patience, and so forth.
