The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. (Psalm 28:7)
What a verse!
Are you in need? Is there a perplexing difficulty in your path? This verse offers encouraging hope.
First, focus on God. The key to faith is the object of faith, never the subject. In other words, the key to faith is not us, it’s God. God is our strength. There is nothing too hard for God, for He is omnipotent (Gen. 18:14; Jer. 32:17, 27). He possesses infinite might. He is the Almighty God. God is also our shield. He is our protection even in times of distress. Look at God. He is above the storm and able to deliver.
Second, trust in God. God-focus leads to God-dependence (Heb. 12:2). The Psalmist testified, my heart trusted in him. This faith was not mechanical. It was real coming from the heart. Being convinced God is our strength and shield leads to casting our burden on the Lord, trusting in Him. The Psalmist then testified, I am helped. God, our Helper in time of need, steps in. The simplicity is that He helps us. Simple, yet profound.
Finally, rejoice in God. When God helps, the heart is stirred with joy. It’s time to praise the Lord, to thank Him for His wonderful goodness, and rejoice in the Lord.
