Q.

How can I embrace Christ if I am prideful and don’t want to be humble?

Jojo

Hello Jojo,

Many wonder the same. Thank you for you honesty! The Bible gives us a prayer we can all pray when we feel this way.

In Lamentations 5:21, Jeremiah cries out, “Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.” When we feel we really don’t want to turn to the Lord, we can ask the Lord to turn us—and He will. In fact, this prayer essentially is turning to the Lord.

What a blessed relief! We can cast ourselves upon the Lord to enable us to cast ourselves upon the Lord. This is not mere rhetoric. It is faith. Faith is humility. It’s the heart cry “I can’t (honesty), but You can (faith).”

F.B. Meyer once found himself in this predicament, but he prayed, “Lord, You know I’m not willing, but I’m willing for you to make me willing.” The Spirit quickened to willingness and gladness, and this proved to be a key turning point in Meyer’s journey.
