In Luke 17, ten lepers cried out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us” (Luke 17:13). This cry revealed faith in Jesus. In response, Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priest. In obedient faith they went and as they went they were cleansed of their leprosy. The sores were gone, and the societal seclusion was over. One, a Samaritan, on seeing that he was healed, immediately turned back toward Jesus. Loudly he glorified God, fell down before Jesus, and thanked Him for healing him. “And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger” (Luke 17:17-18).

How easy it is to find ourselves condemning the nine for their ingratitude. But are we in that group? The leper who was healed unashamedly gave glory to God with a thankful heart. What an example.

We all, if we have believed in Jesus, have been powerfully cleansed by Jesus from the leprosy of sin. This is gloriously true. It is. Beyond that, we receive blessings all the time. Answers to prayer, protection in so many ways, forgiveness when we stumble, provision. Let’s give glory to God—unashamedly with a thankful heart.

The Thanksgiving season is a blessed reminder to give glory to God, to be thankful, and to simply praise the Lord.
